Founded by Jason and Becky King
We started King HR Advisory because too many growing organisations and charities are getting HR advice from people who've never sat in the room when it matters. We have.
We believe every charity, social enterprise and growing organisation deserves access to real HR expertise; not just a helpline, not just a handbook. The kind of experience that helps you grow, understand your risk, and make confident people decisions.
Jason's background spans the charity sector, insurance, financial services, manufacturing and care — including scaling a business from 200 to 400+ people across the UK and EMEA, and serving as a board trustee at two Yorkshire charities. Becky brings a decade of leadership across not-for-profit and hospitality including leading teams of 20.
We're based in Sheffield. We work across the UK. And we deliberately keep our client list small, because the work is better when we know your organisation properly.
Three things that keep leaders up at night?
You don't need more HR jargon. You need someone who's handled it before and can tell you what to do.
3. People situations you're not sure how to handle
"I've got a performance issue, a tricky absence, and a manager who's making it worse. I just want someone to tell me what to do."
We give you confidence and clarity. Not hedged advice from a helpline. Actual answers from someone who's dealt with it hundreds of times as a trusted business partner.
2. People infrastructure that doesn't exist yet
"We've gone from 15 to 60 people and nothing's joined up. Contracts are a mess. Onboarding is whatever the manager feels like doing."
We build what should already be there. Pay structures, proper contracts, onboarding that works, management capability. The foundations that let you keep growing without the wheels coming off.
1. Risk you can't see
"I think we handled that dismissal right, but I'm not sure. What if they come back at us?"
We reduce your risk. Tribunal claims, grievances, restructures, the things that cost £10k–£50k when they go wrong. We make sure they don't.
This is for you if:
You're a founder, MD, CEO or ED of a growing organisation — an SME, a charity, a social enterprise — and the people side of the business is getting harder to manage without proper senior support.
Maybe you're scaling and the people infrastructure hasn't kept up. Maybe you're going through change, a restructure, a leadership transition, a TUPE transfer, and you need someone experienced enough to lead it properly. Maybe you just want senior HR in your corner on a retainer, so the difficult stuff gets handled before it becomes a problem.
You don't have a dedicated senior people function. And you're starting to feel the gap.
You want a trusted partner who gets alongside you. Not a consultant who turns up with a framework and leaves you to implement it.
Three ways we work with organisations
Fractional Head of People
Your senior people leader, on a part-time retained basis. Embedded in your leadership team, attending board meetings, leading on strategy and handling the complex situations that need someone who's done this before.
From £1,500/month.
HR & People Advisory
Ongoing access to senior HR expertise on a retainer. A named advisor who knows your organisation and is available when things come up — not a helpline, not a template.
From £650/month.
Strategic People Projects
Defined-scope projects with a clear beginning and end. Restructures. TUPE. Handbooks. Pay reviews. Investigations. The one-off work that needs senior expertise and proper process.
Working with a charity or social enterprise?
The people challenges in purpose-led organisations are different. Governance obligations, funding-driven restructures, safeguarding responsibilities, the tension between mission and management. We've worked inside these organisations — and sat on their boards. We understand how they work, not just in theory.
